"King Comics, " a venture by King Features Syndicate K. , represented a brief attempt by the syndicate to independently publish a series of comic books featuring its own unique characters, rather than relying on other publishers. Introduced the King Comics countertop store display in 1967 as a promotional effort to boost overall sales. These countertop store displays were manufactured in the United States and were designed to accommodate a total of (6) different sets of 3 packaged King comic books.

Each set of (3) comics was sealed within a polybag, and the retail price for each package was 29 cents. The sets were as follows. Flash Gordon #5, Mandrake #5. Set #2: Popeye #89, Beetle Bailey #62, Blondie #172.

Set #3: Flash Gordon #8, Mandrake the Magician #8. Set #4: Flash Gordon #11, Jungle Jim #5.

Set #5: Flash Gordon #9, Mandrake #9. Mandrake the Magician #6, Flash Gordon #6. Among these (4) countertop displays, (2) of them featured the Phantom, Flash Gordon, and Mandrake the Magician comics, while the other (2) displays showcased Blondie, Popeye, and Beetle Bailey. Each countertop store display had dimensions of 10.5" x 7.75" x 7.5 and included assembly instructions on the side panels.

Within each display box, there were (24) comic book packs, with each pack containing (3) comics. (Last images in listing show the various sets of bagged comics-Comics are NOT included in this lot).
