Well I moved to a smaller home so some cool mancave stuff has to be parted with. It has some minor damage but if you are a Tonka collector or enthusiast you should really not miss it - only one I have ever seen and in researching it I found out why that is.
The sign is printed on solid wood (walnut). I spent some time researching it and.
It is one of only 4 or 5 made by Tonka in 1968. You can see one (that resides now in a known collectoin) in Tiny Tonka Collector's Guide (Snyder & James) Page 290.
Also in the book "Tonka" by David & Laumman, it shows it on page 102. Laumman was pretty sure there were only 4 made - 3 for the Mound MN office and one in the NYC office. If true then this is the last one that was unaccounted for. One other collector thought he remembered that there were a couple more made that were used in trade shows, so its either one of 4 or one of say 10 made...In any case, truly a treasure of Tonka history. If you have more thoughts on it / add to its provenance please feel free to reach out.
